[UPDATED JULY 2022]

IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT SWEDISH CURRENCY:

Sweden uses “Swedish Crowns” (SEK). Almost all businesses are “kontant fri,” otherwise known as “cashless.”

HOWEVER

Some places will only take cash or ask you to pay with “Swish.” Unfortunately, only individuals with a Swedish bank account can use Swish, so the default will be cash. This will be for some businesses or market sales called “loppis.”

Our recommendation is to bring a little cash for those businesses that do not take credit cards and use your card for the bulk of your purchases. Call your bank to let them know you will be abroad so they do not turn your card off. Some businesses also accept other contactless methods such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, but you have to ask.

There are also plenty of things to do in Härnösand depending on the duration of your stay:

Härnösand lies at the base of Sweden’s High Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many activities and places to visit within the High Coast area ranging from Sweden’s best ranked hiking trails and mountains to whiskey and gin tastings, and varying historical museums. The High Coast is also a GREAT PLACE FOR FISHING. (Endora wants to plan a fishing trip if there’s enough interest).

Please visit the official High Coast website for more information on activities and entertainment throughout the region. You can also read about the High Coast area from the following:
